Health and Safety Policy
Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust cares about the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, our tenants, our contractors and stakeholders, and our communities.
Our Health and Safety Policy describes our commitment and to safety and documents our responsibilities and commitments with respect to the management of health and safety in the workplace. Our ISO 45001:2018 accreditation further signifies our dedication to excellence and the highest standards of care.
Our Health and Safety Policy applies to all ŌCHT employees, including Senior Leadership, Managers, employees, volunteers or any contractors or visitors entering our workplace, regardless of location or time.
The scope is restricted to the activities and workplaces which ŌCHT has PCBU responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Policy statement
ŌCHT is committed to:
providing safe and healthy working conditions for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health by the implementation of this policy
fulfilling all legal and other requirements
identifying our health and safety risks and opportunities
eliminating hazards and reducing risks to health and safety
the continuous improvement of our health and safety management system
the consultation and participation of workers
the management of overlapping Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) duties and risks to influence and control health and safety.
Our health and safety objectives
The objectives of the ŌCHT health and safety management system are:

Responsibilities
ŌCHT employees, contractors and volunteers are required to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Health and Safety Regulations 2016, and any amendments to this legislation, and all relevant Codes of Practice and all relevant processes within the Health and Safety Management System.
The Chief Executive is ultimately responsible for the Health and Safety Management System.
The leadership team delegate responsiblity for the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Health and Safety Management System.
The Systems and Compliance Advisor is responsible for advising, establishing, and implementing the health and safety management system, conforming to ISO 45001, reporting on the performance of the system, ensuring the integrity of the system is maintained when changes are planned and implemented.
The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the day to day co-ordination of the health and safety management system, working with Managers and Team Leaders to ensure investigations are completed on time, corrective actions are complete, auditing internal and external operations processes, coordinating hazard identification exercises, hazard risk assessments, coordinating and monitoring control plans. Ensuring that change requests and nonconformities are raised as required.
