Free digital training offered

We’re offering a free digital skills service for tenants and the ŌCHT community will help build it.

Our new Digital Coaching service will help tenants improve their web skills.

ŌCHT’s getting ready to offer a free Digital Coaching service to help tenants get the most from the internet and their devices.

We’ll provide training developed with the help of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and its skills programme Kanorau Digital.

Our new Digital Coaching Advisor will lead the service and will help people develop the skills to:

  • Navigate websites

  • Set up and use email

  • Use online banking

  • Be safe and secure online

  • Manage passwords

  • Communicate online

  • Install and use useful apps, such as MyMSD, Council Bin Collection app, Metro, Banking apps, Shopping apps, CCC Library (Libby/OverDrive)

We’ll do all this in group sessions in community lounges and other community facilities, and in one-on-one individual sessions with those who need it.

But before then, we want to fine-tune the service to suit the people who will use it – which is where ŌCHT’s 2300-plus tenants come in.

Our team will spend the coming weeks on the phone learning more about tenants’ internet and connectivity needs.

Our digital skills programme will help people make the most of the web, no matter their device.

When we call, we’ll ask if people have broadband internet access at home and if they access the web using their mobile phone.

Our team will ask what skills people have, and feel they need, to access and use the many services available on the internet.

We’ll ask whether people have set up their own email accounts and whether they can search the web using Google.

We’ll also ask whether people would be interested in getting some free training to help better use the internet and their devices.

Digital Coaching Advisor Joanne Cantrick is looking forward to supporting ŌCHT tenants to make the most out the internet.

Digital Coaching Advisor Joanne Cantrick says the calls will help her refine the way the service is delivered.

“We’ll learn where help is needed and what type of help each person needs, so that we can start to plan and organise group training and coaching sessions.

“We have partnered with Te Wānaga o Aotearoa who have a wonderful digital skills programme for those that find the digital world a little (or a lot!) challenging.

“The programme, called Kanorau Digital, will help you gain basic everyday digital skills to navigate the digital world with confidence.”

Joanne will coordinate and run training sessions regardless of people’s internet access.

She aims to have the first sessions up-and-running within the next few weeks.

“I can’t wait to meet you and work with you to get you up and running in the digital world,” she says.
